The rule builder at **/rules** lets you define exactly which loads you want to hear about. Fill out the fields in order, check the live preview, then create the rule. This page explains every field so you know what each one controls.

## Rule builder fields

| Field | What it does | How to fill it |
| ------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Rule name** | Appears in your rule list and in the subject line of alert emails | Name it by lane so you know what it does at a glance. Good examples: **Texas to Southeast corridor**, **Home base 100 mi radius**, or **Box truck out of Chicago**. |
| **From** (origin) | Sets where the load must originate | Choose 1 of 3 modes: **State(s):** Click states on the 50-state + DC grid. Multi-select is allowed. **Within radius:** Enter a city and pick a radius (25, 50, 100, 150, 250, or 500 miles). **Anywhere:** Default. Matches loads from any origin. |
| **To** (destination) | Sets where the load must deliver | Same 3 modes as From: **State(s)**, **Within radius** (city + 25/50/100/150/250/500 miles), or **Anywhere** (default). |
| **Equipment** | Filters by required equipment type | Click chips for the equipment types you want. The 16 types are: Cargo Van, Sprinter Van, Box Truck (Straight), Power Only, Hotshot, Flatbed, Reefer, Dry Van, Step Deck, Double Drop, RGN, Lowboy, Conestoga, Tanker, Auto Carrier, Other. | **Min rate per mile** | Sets a floor for the calculated rate per mile | Use the slider to set a minimum RPM, or leave it at **Any** for no floor. |
| **Include loads with no rate** | Controls whether alerts fire on loads without a posted dollar rate | Checked ON by default. If you set a minimum RPM and uncheck this, you will silently drop a large share of the board. Many loads post without a rate. Only uncheck this if you are willing to miss those loads. |
| **Max loaded miles** | Caps the total distance from origin to destination | Enter a number to cap total miles, or leave blank for no cap. |

## Create a rule step by step

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the rule builder">

  </Step>

  <Step title="Set rate, miles, and pickup filters">
    Adjust the **Min rate per mile** slider, enter a **Max loaded miles** cap, and choose a **Pickup window**. Decide whether to keep **Include loads with no rate** checked.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose alert channels">
    Turn on **Email**, **SMS** (if your plan supports it), and **Push** (if you use the mobile app). Verify your contact info is correct.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create the rule">
    Click **Create rule**. The rule appears in your rules list at **/rules** and starts watching the board immediately. Matches show up under **Notifications** and in the bell at the top right.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## After you create a rule

Your rule appears in the list at **/rules**. You can edit, pause, or delete it anytime. Alerts start within minutes of a matching load posting.

## The rule's no-rate checkbox and the board's Posted only toggle

The rule builder's **Include loads with no rate (Call for rate)** checkbox controls whether your **alerts** fire on loads without a posted dollar rate. The load board's **Posted only** toggle controls what you **see on the board**. They're different controls on different surfaces and each one is set independently.

<AskSupport subject="Alerts — Posted only vs Include no-rate independence" question="I want to confirm: does the load board's 'Posted only' rate-type toggle affect my notification rules at all? And does the rule builder's 'Include loads with no rate' checkbox affect what I see on the board? I'd like to know whether these two controls are fully independent.">
  Need to know exactly how these two controls interact?
